Course Description

Transform your pottery with Surface Design Part 2! In this six-week course, Bailey Walters and Andy Williams teach a range of surface techniques to bring character and depth to your pottery. Each week we introduce a new method and technique, encouraging creativity and confidence with every session. With an emphasis on bisque and greenware decorating, together we will explore clay slip incising, methods for transferring designs, tools for resist application, how to design and use clay stamps, and sprigging for low relief motifs. This course builds on existing skills with in-depth, hands-on instruction in surface design techniques. Each week introduces a fresh approach, encouraging creativity and confidence with every session. This course doesn’t cover forming or building new pieces but instead focuses on surface decoration. Some previous experience - either handbuilding or throwing - is required for this course. Each weekly class is two hours long - which breaks out to an affordable cost of $49/week. Class size limited to 8. Included with this course: - Open studio time to practice surface decoration on your own each week. Please see the Student Practice page on the website for current practice hours. - Basic tools for your use during class. (Bring a towel and apron if you like.) Note: We keep our garage door open for airflow. Please dress warmly if the weather is chilly.
