This year marks five years since Throw Clay LA first opened its doors! What started as a space for people to connect through pottery has grown into a thriving community of makers, artists, and first-time potters finding joy in clay. As we celebrate this milestone, we’re also excited to launch something close to our hearts: Art Without Barriers—an initiative designed to make pottery more accessible to those who face obstacles to creating ceramic art.
Looking Back: Five Years of Creative Growth
Since 2020, we’ve seen thousands of hands shape clay, spin on the wheel for the first time, and carve out personal creative journeys. We started just two months before COVID hit—an uncertain time that only reinforced how vital a creative space could be. Through lockdowns and challenges, we kept going, knowing that working with clay offered a sense of grounding, connection, and joy when the world felt unpredictable. Each year, our community grew, and so did we—expanding from our small studio into a bright, plant-filled space alive with creativity, laughter, and the warmth of shared experience. Throughout all the changes, one thing has remained constant: the power of pottery to bring people together. We’ve watched hesitant beginners turn into passionate makers and witnessed the pure joy of someone pulling their first successful mug off the wheel—a reminder of why we do what we do. Five years of clay, creativity, and community—growing, evolving, and now expanding access to art for all.
Looking Forward: 5 Years of Clay Expanding Access to Art
Pottery should be for everyone. That’s why we have launched Art Without Barriers, a program designed to remove financial and physical obstacles to making ceramics. This includes:
✔ Community Grants—funding for classes, courses and memberships for those in need.
✔ Sliding Scale Memberships—flexible pricing options for those facing financial hardship.
This program is funded through our one-time Wheel classes and community donations, and we’re committed to making it sustainable for the years ahead.
