Art Without Barriers: Membership Grants

At Throw Clay LA, we believe that pottery should be accessible to everyone. Art Without Barriers is funded with the support of our community, who help make pottery more accessible through their participation and contributions. A membership grant provides flexible support for experienced potters seeking to deepen their connection to clay but who may face challenges in accessing a studio space. Through its Art Without Barriers grants, Throw Clay LA allocates funds each month to help offset the cost of membership, ensuring that more people can engage in the creative and communal benefits of pottery.

Structure & Support Levels

Each month, a dedicated portion of our Art Without Barriers fund is allocated to membership grants. To support as many members as possible, grants are awarded at varying levels of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%.

Grants may be awarded for up to six months, depending on need and available funding. This tiered structure ensures that more individuals can participate while maximizing the reach of the Art Without Barriers program.

Who Can Apply?

Experienced potters who know their way around a pottery studio and can work independently may apply. Applicants will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Need – Expanding opportunities for individuals who might not otherwise be able to participate in the arts.

  • Experience – How an Art Without Barriers grant will impact their ceramic arts creative journey.

  • Community Impact – Their intention to use pottery to give back or inspire others.

  • Participation Commitment – Dedication to fully utilizing the membership.

  • Additional Circumstances – Unique challenges or lack of access to the arts.

Giving Back to the Community

Our creative community is built on collaboration, inclusivity, and the shared belief that art should be accessible to all. As part of the Art Without Barriers initiative, recipients are encouraged to engage with and contribute to the member community in meaningful ways. This may include:

  • Assisting with member events and activities

  • Sharing knowledge with fellow potters

  • Inspiring others by sharing their experience

By applying for a membership grant, you’re not only gaining access to a creative space—you’re becoming part of a community that values inclusivity, support, and shared growth.
